Engineering and Product Highlight
This week’s engineering interview highlights Chris Prouty, a long-time employee of AMETEK Sensors and Fluid Management Systems and his product of expertise Thermocouple Sensors.
What is a design engineer?
Design engineers constructs products out of components based off a list of requirements provided by the customer. The goal of a design engineer is to meet all the specifications the customer wants through analysis and testing so that all the materials for the product can be bought properly.
Thermocouples
What is a thermocouple?
Type K thermocouples are utilized in temperature sensing for a variety of different applications including jet engine temperature sensing and turbine temperature sensing. These thermocouples are extremely reliable, and accurate and is important in platforms that need a temperature reading quickly, such as fighter jets, and business jets. Our thermocouples are typically placed on the engine where temperatures can reach 2000 degrees Fahrenheit.

AMETEKs Pedigree:
AMETEK SFMS has been producing thermocouples over 40 years and has provided the most accurate and reliable products on the market. Our experience allows us to produce type K thermocouples that have very specific specifications including temperature, pressures, accuracy, durability, and time responses.
Testing Capabilities:
AMETEK SFMS’s testing capabilities allow us to provide the most reliable products on the market. Our inhouse testing capabilities include vibration and shock testing, temperature testing, altitude testing, and wind tests, and time response testing. For a more in depth and technical look at our thermocouple capabilities check out our Thermocouple data sheet here.
SFMS OVERVIEW
AMETEK Sensors and Fluid Management Systems (SFMS) is a global leader in the design, test and manufacturing of sensing products for the commercial, military-defense, business-jet and space markets. These sensors support applications related to temperature, pressure, fluid level, fluid flow, position and acceleration/speed, many of which need to operate in harsh operating environments. SFMS has been producing product for systems operating on the most critical commercial and military aircraft programs in aerospace history.
